Membrane Systems
Covering a green future
Membrane Systems Europe B.V. (MSE) is a global leader in the design, manufacture, and installation of membrane covering systems for the international biogas industry. MSE has installed more than 8,000 double membrane systems in over 80 countries worldwide. All MSE biogas products are manufactured using state-of-the-art 100% high-frequency welding technology. Compared with conventional hot-air welding methods, this technology provides superior welding accuracy, consistency, and long-term reliability.
To ensure safety and durability, all systems are designed based on structural calculations that consider wind and snow loads and comply with internationally recognized standards, including Germany's Eurocode 1 (DIN 1055) and TRAS 120.
MSE offers a comprehensive portfolio of gas storage covers, tank covers, and integrated system components designed for reliable and efficient plant operation.
Main Product Lineup
Biogas Dome
The system utilizes high-performance membrane materials with excellent resistance to the acids and corrosive compounds typically found in biogas environments. This minimizes corrosion risks while providing a cost-effective alternative to conventional steel gas holders.
Compared with steel gas holders of similar capacity, a Biogas Dome can be installed at significantly lower cost and has become one of the most widely adopted gas storage solutions in the biogas industry.
Specifications
- Storage capacity: 40 m³ to 12,500 m³
- Maximum operating pressure: up to 50 mBar
Applications
- Agricultural biogas plants
- Industrial biogas facilities
- Waste treatment facilities
- Wastewater and sludge treatment plants
Double Membrane Cover

The system consists of an inner membrane and an outer membrane. Biogas is stored within the inner membrane, while a dedicated blower maintains air pressure between the membranes. This allows the structure to retain its shape regardless of gas volume fluctuations and ensures stable operation under varying weather conditions.
Specifications
- Tank diameter: up to 55 m
- Maximum operating pressure: up to 20 mBar
Features
Optional insulation systems such as Low-E, Trisolator, Heat Flow Reducer, and Foam insulation can reduce thermal losses from approximately 3.5 W/m² to 0.8 W/m².Rectangular Double Membrane
Suitable for both wet and dry anaerobic digestion processes, the system reduces odor emissions while enabling safe storage of generated biogas. MSE's engineering capabilities allow membrane solutions to be designed for virtually any tank or lagoon geometry.
Specifications
- Maximum length (or width): up to 120 m
Single Membrane Cover

The membrane is supported by a central column and stainless-steel fixing system, eliminating the need for large supporting beams. Its lightweight, flexible, and maintenance-free design provides an attractive alternative to conventional metal roofs.
As an option, the patented Single Solar Cover allows flexible solar panels to be integrated directly onto the membrane roof.
Advanced Integrated Components

In addition to membrane covers, MSE provides a range of integrated system components that support safe, reliable, and automated plant operation.
Quality Membranes
MSE utilizes high-quality industrial polyester fabrics from Serge Ferrari and Verseidag, including VC-800, VC-900, VC-1100, VC-1300, and VC-1500.Material selection is optimized according to tank size, project requirements, and operating pressure. All membrane materials comply with DIN 4102 B1 flame-retardant requirements and are designed to minimize methane permeability.
Ventilator System
Ventilator System Dedicated air blowers (FRV-110 / FRV-160 / FRV-225) maintain a constant air pressure (standard 2.5 mBar) between the double membranes. This preserves the outer membrane's shape and protects the equipment from wind and snow, regardless of gas volume fluctuations. This ensures structural stability and protects the cover system from wind and snow loads regardless of changes in gas storage volume.
Gas Volume Measurement System
Gas storage volume can be monitored by measuring the height of the inner membrane.Available technologies include:
GasHmeter (liquid pressure)
Ultrasoon (ultrasonic)
Weight with belt
Measurement data is provided as a 4-20 mA signal and can be integrated into plant control systems.
Over-/Underpressure Valve (OUPV)
The OUPV protects the system from abnormal pressure conditions.Standard operating settings maintain pressures between -1.0 mBar and +5.0 mBar. Customized pressure ranges are available when required.
Support Construction
A variety of support options are available to enhance long-term operational reliability, including stainless-steel center columns, PES support belts, and desulfurization nets. These components help prevent membrane deformation and contribute to the protection of downstream equipment such as CHP engines.
